why is it
that
so many
people
like
to collect
shells and rocks
at beaches?
is it that
we want
to take
a little bit
of the ocean
home with us?
where does
the idea
of souvenir
come from?
something
to remember.
as it means
in french-
to remember.

i grew up
by the ocean
but,
unlike my sister
who filled
egg cartons
with shells
she collected
on the beach,
i preferred
to play
in the surf
and get
ice cream cones
at
the snack shack.
i do remember
loving to look
at her
collection
of shells
tucked
away
in egg cartons
where little
sisters
were not suppose
to pry.
{but i did
of course}.

now,
years later,
i make collections
to carry home
from the sea.
to arrange
and look at
months later.
perhaps
she knew
something
then
that i only
have just
learned.

wishing
you a lovely
weekend.

this year,
thanks
to
hannahand her
amazing photos,
i decided to
take
a tripod
to sea ranch.
this spawned
a whole
new
avenue
of photos.
what started
as nice
{almost} proper
shots,

turned
to madness.

it's
the fault of
w. coast pony,

she is
fond
of
jumping.
on the
other hand,grub
used
it as
a weapon.

{
another perspective}
. . .
more to come.

xo

a quick
rundown of
some
of our
food and wine
adventures.

we always
start our trip
at
A16in SF.
jet-lagged
and exhausted
we sit,
eat and drink
through
the lunch hour.
grub likes
to sit
at the bar
to see the prep
for dinner.
this year
the viewwas
fascinating
but
a little...
gross.
the food
is always
very good.

but the
dessert
was
amazing.

the next day
w. coast pony
flew in
from seattle.
we had
to go
to
bluebottle coffee.

then off to
napa for
sparkling wine
tasting
(this year's agenda)

lunch at
bouchon.
more tasting.

dinner at
ubuntu.
and
we called it
a night.
. . .
finally
off
to sea ranch.

more
sea ranch
photos
tomorrow.
xo

lots
of
photos
to share
over
the week...
not to mention
my diana F+photos...
if any
turned out!
i finished
a baby
blanket
for the
cutest
little
girl
whose name
means
violet.

more
tomorrow...
i am
feeling
so
jet-lagged.
xo

it's cold
and
no matter
how many
sweaters
i put on,
i can't get warm.

this is when
it is clear
that
my roots
are in
southern
california.
. . . . .
i have been
away for a while.
you know
how
difficult
it is
to get back
in touch
when you
have been
out of touch?
that's how
i feel.
like jumping
on a
merry-go-round
after
it's
in motion.

ready.
set.
jump!
. . . . .
i leave
to
sea ranch.
in a week.
my
color scheme.
is orange
and blue...
so in my
spare moments
i am knitting
my wardrobe
with yarn
i have
in my stash.

i am
starting
to resemble
the
muppets
on
sesame street.
you will
be able
to spot
me on
the beach.
can't
you hardly
wait
until
spring?
