eating spring

cranberry beans

although
the weather
has been
beautiful
and
grub is
now here,
i have been
sick all
week...
uninspired
to photograph
or write.

grub has
been investigating
all the different
grocery stores,
liquor stores
and markets...
bringing home
different cheeses,
terrines
of unknown animals
{until we look it up},
and
vegetables of
all varieties.

yesterday
i began
to feel better
and
grub & i looked
at an amazing
apartment
{kept your fingers
crossed for us!}...

in the evening,
after the
apartment visit,
we sat in the
kitchen and
shelled
fava beans
and
cranberry beans
(photo above)
in the waning light.

he found
wild asparagus
at the market
so he sauteed
the asparagus
and paired
it with fresh
sheep's milk
ricotta,
some fava beans,
olive oil
and onions
for
our evening meal.

asperges sauvages

it felt like
i was eating
the essence
of spring.

more soon.

I am looking for apartments too! Started early to see what's out there...don't move 'till end-o-June though...but happy to say Portland is STILL an afforable place to rent!!

GOOD LUCK! May we both find a happy lilypad to call home....

how did grub cook the fava beans? I have made them a few times, but they seem like such a hassle. They're a gorgeous color, but flavor- meh.

Ohh, you certainly are eating Spring up. I was so glad to return to your blog and see a myriad of new, exciting posts. I too have moved to this part of world for work (From Australia to Paris) and we are enjoying cherries from our own tree, raspberries from the markets and fennel in almost everything. I have a feeling this is going to be a wonderful adventure for your little family. x
