things in light
{my new mexico planner}
has it really
been so long
since i last
was
in this space?
what a
crazy summer
it has been.
still is.
i was able
to take
a break
to go to
the
ecological society
meetings
in albuquerque...
then
i went
to santa fe
with
my mother
and aunt.
o'keeffe on arriving
in new mexico
said:
Well! Well! Well!...
This is wonderful.
No one told me it was like this!
that's exactly
how i felt.
i fell in love.
maybe because
i have been
in the east
for so
long and
new mexico
is such
a contrast...
maybe it's
the native
desert-loving
californian
in me...
but
i was in awe.
but mostly
i was
in love with
the light.
i couldn't
get over
the light.
once again
o'keeffe
uses
the perfect
words:
It is not a country of
light on things.
It is a country of
things in light.
at the
santa fe opera
i watched
don giovanni
as the
sun set...
and
slowly
a few
desert moths
were drawn
to the lights
on the stage...
how that light
is
irresistible.
stunning.
disorienting.
i felt
the same
way.

wonderful photos. good to see how wonderfully creative you continue to be.
it's as if there is a different sun there, different particles in the air. love your photos. xox
So glad to see you back in this space. Your photos tell a great story.
your wardrobe drawing is sweet and endearing. i am a desert girl myself, something about it is magic.
Isn't New Mexico wonderful? My friends' grandparents live there & I've visited in two different summers. They live on the hillside within Lincoln National Forest. It's cool and rainy even in August, such a contrast to the desert. I've fallen in love with the state many times over.
It is the Land of Enchantment, after all.
it's the land of enchantment [and entrapment]
there is no sky like the nm sky...
welcome home
Here's to light that is
"irresistible.
stunning.
disorienting."
And, here is to your adorable clothing plan, too.
What a great trip. Thanks for sharing Mexico.
What a beautiful, peaceful place (imagine being married in that church?) Love your wardrobe planner as always especially the inclusion of jewellery :)
