ruff & ready

ruff & ready pola

there's
a local
thrift/vintage
store by my house
called
ruff & ready
furnishings
.
this is a photo
of the front.

i never
went in there
because they
put really
junky stuff
out front
on the weekend.
one day,
a few months ago,
i wandered in
and found
that
it was
a mecca...
it reminded me
of why
i love places
like this-
i love
to just
search through
old junk
for something
that
catches my eye
and
inspires me.

it's
jam-packed
with
stuff.
perfect
for
poking around.

when
i was
a student
years ago,
i use to go to
square one
antique mall

on
sunday mornings
by myself.
it is one
of my
fondest
memories
from that time.
i have a lot
of great stuff
from that place.

this
past friday
i went to the
village
after a long
hiatus...
unfortunately
i was
operating on
low blood sugar
and wasn't
quite in to it...
also i was
with a friend
who wasn't
really into
perusing.
it's difficult
to get into
perusing
when you are
with someone
who isn't
doing the same.

but during
my quick
pre-bubble tea
run through
i found
some cool items.
here are my
friday finds:

1. 1970s
catherine holm
(cathrineholm?)
bowl

thrifted: cathrineholm bowl

2. vintage
argus 75 camera

thrifted: vintage argus

3. 1940s-1960s
children's books

thrifted: vintage children's books (1949-1959)
cool illustrations.
i had some of
these when
i was little.

not bad
for a gal
running
on low
blood sugar,
no?

i am hoping
this week
brings
with it
high productivity.
i feel like
i am in
a post-exam
slump.

more soon.
until then,
xo

i am low-energy right now, too. children's books are always such a great find. so neat to discover a treasure-trove right in your neighborhood!

I went to Ruff & Ready on Saturday! And Hunted House next store. We didn't find anything special, but it was definitely fun to peruse.

I had those books when I was little! I still have them, in fact, and now L reads them:)
The illustrations are wonderful. And I love the thickish cream colored paper...
I definitely prefer thrifting alone -then I can dawdle as much (or little as I want) over each thing.
So when do we get to see the picture of the architect bag?
xo

The best junky, crammed-with-stuff antique store here closed last summer. Big bummer.

I still have VV...and a bunch of coupons my Mum gave me....!

Save a mint! Go used! I give some advantages of shopping at consignment shops, thrift stores, antique shops, and more at peoplepowergranny.blogspot.com. And while in my neighborhood, vote in my poll on what you like to buy used.

those are amazing finds for low blood sugar... what would have happened if you had been searching post-bubble tea? :) and i am like martha, unless you are with someone who is super into it, it can be better to be alone... but hunting around with someone who is on your wavelength is so much fun too. xo

i noticed from your etsy that you're from dc. what bubble tea places do you recommend? i'm guessing the one you're referring to in your post is near a value village. amazing cathrine holm bowl. that's one of my dream thrift finds.

Wow, great finds...the thrift stores over there seem to be much better than those here (perhaps I need to cast my perusing nets wider) :)
