dark n' stormy

i think
that the
first time
i ever went
to nyc
i was 27.
but since
i moved to DC
i have gone up
a lot.

now that
my brother
moved there,
i go up
even more.

but i never
tire of nyc.
so much
to see.
always
something new.
i do tire
of how
much
i am on
the subway,
even i,
the
public transportation
queen
,
tire
of constantly
metroing.

as usual,
i had to
go to
my favorite
places
purl,

{can you guess
my travel
color scheme?}

kee's chocolates,
little branch,
and
grub took
me and my brother
to a new place,

smith and mills.
it's in
grub's new book.
the bar is
an amazing
collection
of salvaged
objects
by the owners.

everything
from
a vintage
elevator
used for
the bathroom

to ship
architectural plans
from 1903
framed on the wall
(apparently found
in a dumpster).
it has a feeling
of Delicatessen
and i was
immediately
in love.
if you ever
get a chance
to go there,
try the
dark n' stormy
made from the
bartender's own
ginger brew.

. . . . .

the next day
grub and i
(johnny had to work)
hopped
the train
to head
north of
the city
to
blue hill at stone barns
to see
a restaurant
we had only
seen in photos.

we wanted
to go here
because
of the
philosophy
behind
their
stylish restaurant
and
food reputation.

we toured
the farm
and
ate
an amazing meal
from
heirloom cauliflower
"shots"

{grub
and the
cauliflower forest}

with
fennel soup
to
fancy
potato chips
through which
they threaded
a single
sage leaf.

wow.
(almost)
everything
from
the farm
right next
door.
how cool is that?

we felt
like
sitting
in front
of a fire
and
staying put
as the
sun disapperared

but it
was back
on the train
and back
to nyc
for dinner
with johnny
and then
another
train ride home
to dc.

then
monday morning.

{still haven't
put those birds
away}

enjoy wednesday!
more tomorrow.

It's interesting how those fit-outs that are more like an individual's response rather than a generic "design" tend to stay with me well after I've visited them, more so than the "designer" ones. Which is doubly interesting being a 'designer' myself. I have to add smith+mills to my NY wish-list.
And I love the image of the tiled floor, it says so much.

It sounds like you had a really good time. Are you going back to NYC? There's a plush show opening tomorrow... ;)

I love your travel colour scheme, I have decided I want to steal your wardrobe too :) (love that photo) Always a pleasure to explore new eateries -really amazed by the cauliflower forest and the potato chips, they're a work of art.

OHGODOHGODOHGOD!!!!
Ginnie: it always amazes me how much you under value yer own creative abilities....Your apartment, your knitting "creations"(isn't that a one of those annoying descriptions like "artistic hobby")....You are so much more talented than you know...But then, this is the albatross about the artist's neck sometimes...(not to over-romantisize) ....
bY THE WAY, WE REALLY DO NEED TO GO TO THAT FARM...it looks pretty durn cool...
P.S.: Sorry again about the bad service....
