grub turned
38
on thursday.
we did a
post-birthday
celebration
this weekend
by taking
the 6am bus
to nyc...
and
the 3am
(yes 3am)
train home.
we always
thought
that sounded
like
just the sort
of crazy thing
we'd like
to do
{while we
still can}.
we had
lunch
at
jean georges
ate macaroons
from
bouchon
shopped
at
some
favorite stores
cocktails
& sunset gazing
at
perry street
dinner
at
vandaag
then
rhum o rhama
cienfuegos
hurricane club
{horrible place}
painkiller
we barely made
it to the train!
. . .
sunday
we recovered
with a walk
to our
favorite pizza place
and
park.
see the
rest of
the weekend
polaroids
on
this joy + ride!
hope you had
a fun-filled
weekend.

i think
that the
first time
i ever went
to nyc
i was 27.
but since
i moved to DC
i have gone up
a lot.
now that
my brother
moved there,
i go up
even more.
but i never
tire of nyc.
so much
to see.
always
something new.
i do tire
of how
much
i am on
the subway,
even i,
the
public transportation
queen,
tire
of constantly
metroing.
as usual,
i had to
go to
my favorite
places
purl,
{can you guess
my travel
color scheme?}kee's chocolates,
little branch,
and
grub took
me and my brother
to a new place,
smith and mills.
it's in
grub's
new book.
the bar is
an amazing
collection
of salvaged
objects
by the owners.

everything
from
a vintage
elevator
used for
the bathroom

to ship
architectural plans
from 1903
framed on the wall
(apparently found
in a dumpster).
it has a feeling
of
Delicatessenand i was
immediately
in love.
if you ever
get a chance
to go there,
try the
dark n' stormymade from the
bartender's own
ginger brew.
. . . . .
the next day
grub and i
(johnny had to work)
hopped
the train
to head
north of
the city
to
blue hill at stone barnsto see
a restaurant
we had only
seen in photos.
we wanted
to go here
because
of the
philosophybehind
their
stylish restaurant
and
food reputation.
we toured
the farm
and
ate
an amazing meal
from
heirloom cauliflower
"shots"
{grub
and the
cauliflower forest}with
fennel soup
to
fancy
potato chips
through which
they threaded
a single
sage leaf.

wow.
(almost)
everything
from
the farm
right next
door.
how cool is that?
we felt
like
sitting
in front
of a fire
and
staying put
as the
sun disapperared

but it
was back
on the train
and back
to nyc
for dinner
with johnny
and then
another
train ride home
to dc.
then
monday morning.
{still haven't
put those birds
away}enjoy wednesday!
more tomorrow.

{east village}
sorry
i disappeared.
i have been
in nyc since
wednesday.
i met up
with
my siblings
(4 out of 5)
in nyc
to celebrate
my sister's
40th birthday.
2 from seattle
1 in nyc
and
grub & i
from dc.
i stayed
with my brother
johnny
in harlem.
he has
a
huge place
that is
straight out
of
the buena vista
social club...
crumbling elegance.

it's falling apart
but it's
so beautiful.
. . . . .
my brothers
and grub
in soho

waiting
for my sister
as she
shopped
on her
birthday.
. . . . .
we had
one of
the best
dinners
of our lives
at
mas...
. . . . .
an
evening stroll
in central park
with my sister
before i left
sunday...

it went
far
too fast.
i miss them.
happy birthday
suzy.
more
polaroids
and purses.
soon.
