village friday ... wanna swap?

it poured
last night
the AIA awards
garden party.
too bad,
the garden
at the museum
is beautiful.
if you ever get to dc
and love fiber arts,
try to make
it to
the textile museum.
it's one of the
least appreciated
museums in dc.
i think
its underappreciation
has to do
with a bias
towards
domestic arts.
i hate that word
domestic.
i am the last person
to frown at what is
done in the home
but i feel that word
is used to
undervalue
art and crafts
done in the home-
most often by women.
it's a little pet-peeve
of mine...
don't even
get me going
on why most
men think
knitting
is a woman's thing!

i didn't get
much done
last night
because
we got home late
and i was tired
(read as:
too much greek beer)...

i did work a little
on my collages.

i will show you
some of them
this weekend.
i am a little shy
because
it's very difficult
to do a good collage.
i am a great admirer
of the dadaist collages
and blogger
collage artists like
camilla
eero
and
randel
(to name a few)
who do
incredible work.

i am so inspired
by the beautiful paper
that camilla
and johnny sent me.
i love unusual papers.
especially
in different languages
or from old
textbooks.
i am finally getting around
to putting a little package
for randel...
and this gave me an idea...

wanna swap?!
i propose a
recycled paper swap.
this means
no papers
from the paper source
or other
scrapbooking stores...
pull together
weird papers
that you find
or come across.
papers like
old
receipts
manuals
photos
tickets
photocopies
wrapping paper
fabric snipets
etc.

papers should be
smaller
than 8x10 inches
and
not purchased from
your standard
stores
(thrifted
or unusual
paper stores
okay).
i have 9 packages
to swap
if i get a bigger response
than 9 people
i can set up
swap buddies.
if you
are interested
email me
at
bugheart(at)gmail(dot)com.

i feel so fortunate
to have met
so many amazing artist
through blogging...
besides being
constantly inspired
by their work,
i like having
a new friend
to inspire me
to pick up something
at places
like value village.
i am always looking
for things for my friends,
so now while i shop
i pick up something
and think...
sooz might like this...
or
amy's daughter would love this...
or
this fabric would be great for lizette's softies
or
nichola's purses.

i love finding things
that inspire crafty people
or
adding to their collections!

enough of
my babbling...
here are my finds for friday:

1. pyrex bowls

i don't really need
more bowls.
period.
but...but...
they were only
60 cents!
*sigh*

2. lily pulitzer dress

silk blue
lily dress
with snowflakes.

3. fabric

this came in a bag
so i couldn't
pick and choose
but maybe
some could work
for lizette's softies.

4. maternity dress

no i am not pregnant.
i was attracted to
this cute dress
in the maternity section.
i thought that
maybe
my pregnant
sister-in-law
could wear it
this summer?
she looks
beautiful
in pinks and reds.

5. green top

i just thought
this was cute.

6. sheet

great soft cotton
bed spread
from england.
also purchased
with lizette
in mind but
i can cut it into pieces
if others are interested.

7. vintage purse

perfect tiny
black purse
for going out.

7. vintage photo album

now i just need to find
the time to put
the photos
in the album.

8. marimekko dress

this was my
find for the day!
an actual marimekko
summer dress!
i am thrilled!
it's so soft.
i think it is vintage
because of the tag
but i am not sure.

wow.
i bought too much.
looks like
i need to
give-away
a lot on monday!

hope you all
have a wonderful
weekend.
xo

Thanks for the nice comments. It means a lot. A paper swap sounds super.A collage artist can never have too much paper.

Hmmm - I'll think about this and search through my papers. I know I have tons of matchbook papers! I don't really need more paper at this point though I think -- what I need is to learn how to collage effectively.

What a productive village day! I almost went today since I was off, but I transplanted seedlings instead.

What a score -- the Lily dress in silk, in blue, with snowflakes! Yum yum. I am a Village junkie too, but have nenver seen Lilys in mine :(. I did get a beautiful skyblue cashmere sweater to felt, but that silk is be-yoo-tiful!

I would love to swap papers too (I can add when I send the buttons). How many should we put together -- a pound? Pink

You are the master thrifter, I am awed by your shopping prowess. The Marimeko dress? Awesome.
