early bird

i like the quiet
of sunday morning
before
the church bells
ring
at 10 o'clock.




i was never
one to
purposely
get up early
on weekends.
having
a wee grub
has changed
my morning
schedule.

nowadays
i am
up
and busy
by 8am
at the latest.




this weekend
i tried
to attend to
some projects
that have been
demanding
my attention
for quite
some time.

i crossed
at least one
off my list.

i have
been doing
my daily drawings
although
i have not liked
almost all of them
this week.
i did like
the last one.
the apricot.

i think
that i prefer
drawing
with
color.

on sundays,
when the weather
cools

my weekends
feeding
caterpillars,
grub and i
like to
take walks
around town...

come join us...

we discover
a little park

of course
we have
to stop
at our
favorite
place
for lunch.

and then
zucchini
and
zucchini flower
pizza.



yum.

there's
a new
dessert place
across the street,
so of course
i have
to try
a cupcake.

grub always
gets
chocolate.



i prefer
vanilla.

growing up
the sound
of the radio
was constant
in my home.

i remember
listening
to some drama
on the radio
throughout
the house
while
everyone
in the house
was
seperately
engrossed
in their own
projects.

my mother cooking
in the kitchen
at the top
of the stairs...
the smell
of
onions
permeating
silently into
each room.

my sister
reading
in her room...
the rocking
chair
creeking
back
and forth.

my brother joe
painting
at the foot
of the stairs...
turpentine
creeping
up the stairs
to mingle
with the
onions.

my brother tom
play-acting
some battle...
the occasional
cry of victory
from
a make-believe
audience.

my brother johnny
and i
usually
sitting
on the stairs
playing a game...
whispering
about
some
grandiose
plan.

my
dad in his
office
probably
writing
another
nsf proposal...
the sound
of the
dot matrix printer
on it's
long journey
across the page.


somehow
listening
to the radio
together
made it
seem like
we were all
in
the same room.


this weekend
we stayed in
and listened
to the radio
as
grub prepared
for thanksgiving





and
i cleaned
and
finished
neglected
projects.
