3: clutches

three clutches

i had three
clutches
knitted
but not
felted
from
last season.

now that
it's cooling
off
i thought
i'd
finish
them up
before
i move on
to the new
fall 08
colors
and
designs.

yellow clutch on-the-go

they
are for sale
here.
these
are
the last
i will make
of
these
clutches!

they would
go so well
with
this
or
this.

i am
a sucker
for
yellow,
blue,
and red.

red clutch

i am
really
looking
forward
to
fall.
cardigans,
cords,
and
tea & knitting.

lovely.

have a
restful
weekend!

i am obsessed
with the
macrina cookbook.
it was one
of
my favorite places
to go
when i lived
in seattle.

i made
8
of
the same color
clutches
for an order.

blue clutches

and

orange and grey purse

underbug in pink

grey and yellow clutch

i came up
with
what grub
called
the
perfect bugheart purse.
2 other architects
who came over
this weekend
commented on it.
funny,
because
it was
a prototype
of a
purse for
a very stylish architect.
photos
to come.

hope you
had a lovely
weekend.

w.i.p.

socks for mom

i have been
absent
{missed you}
because
i am preparing
for a talk
i am giving
in san diego
next sunday.
i don't
have my data
for the talk yet
so...
i am
a wee bit
stressed out...

but,
as
my labmate says,
most things
done
in this world
are done
"last minute."

i am also
ambitiously
trying
to get
some birthday
socks
for my brothers

birthday socks

birthday socks

and
a sweater

my sister's sweater yarns

for a secret
xmas present
recipient

all done
in the next
few weeks...

in my family
we only give
one present
to
one person
each year.
we do this
because
we were all
so overwhelmed
the holiday
consumption
and decided
to try to
redefine
christmas
for the next
generation
(mainly
my baby nephew).

instead
we each do
a performance
for the family
on christmas eve.
my brother
and i are
putting
together
our
2nd
shadow puppet
show.
we took
the house down
last year
with our
performance
of
the mariner's revenge.
(check out
a little bit
of our dc
re-performance
here).

we took
about 24 hours
to put it together...
we were cutting
shadow puppets
until right before
the performance.

knowing
my brother
and i...
i suspect
it won't be
too much better
this year.

have you
invented
any special
holiday
traditions?

. . . . .

i have
finished
a batch of
purses
for
velouria
this week...
all with
a forest theme...
here are
2 of them:

doe, a deer

stag party

have a good
thursday...

. . . . .

from being sick)
of getting
things done.

i have been
working on
more bowls

and

night windows

{pink fawn}

The full moon makes
our faces shine
like over-ironed polyester,
Then disappears
behind the clouds,
and leaves me under empty rows
of night windows.
...
{the weakerthans
}

another
song
stuck
in my head.

i am off to
nyc
this evening.
i love to
walk around
nyc at night.
windows lite
up and
so many people
in their
own worlds
oblivious to me.

grub and i
are going
to visit
my brother
and
go to
blue hill stone barns
restaurant
because
it's in
grub's
restaurant book.

more
felted
things

for
the
shop update
today.

polaroids
still
coming soon.

have a
lovely
weekend!

collect the moments

one by one
I guess that's how
the future's done...
{feist
}

it's
a cool
gray
afternoon
that
reminds
me of
walking home
after
elementary
school
with
my siblings.
the days
when you
knew
summer
was really gone.
my mom
was
at home
with
apple cider
and
pepparkakor.
i could
use
some
cider and
pepparkakor
today.

i am in love
with grays
and browns.
my sister
(the fashionista)
tells me
that's
the colors
this year.
so i am knitting
in grays
and browns
and i find it
very soothing.

i am so glad
that i
take the metro
to and from
school...
it gives me
time to sit
and knit...
just
a little bit
every day.
i can't quite
explain
why it's
so important
to me...
but somehow
it centers me
every day.
it reminds me
that
each little stitch
will someday
become something
bigger.

these
are some
of my
metro
creations:

for
the
shop update
friday at 2pm
EST
(polaroids
soon).

hope you
have time
for
fika
today.

long lists

you know
the days
when you
run
run
run
but at the
end of the
day
it doesn't
seem like
you got
anything
done?

i love
to make
lists
but so
rarely
check
things
off of
my lists.
i tend
to start projects
before i finish
old projects.
a bad habit.
many
a 3/4-finished
knitting project
sits
in my knitting
basket.
i cover it up
with new yarn
so
i don't
have to
look at it.

nothing
planned
for
this weekend...
i have
a huge stack
of lab reports
and
exams
to grade
by monday.
so
grub
{who has
a book to finish}
and i
are holing
ourselves
up for the
weekend
to
get sh*t done.
we will be
fueled by
belgium beer
and the
occasional
break
for
knitting
and
cooking.

. . . . .

i updated
my etsy
but
there is
a delay
on the
polaroid print front
{sorry!}
due to
issues
with prints.
i am not happy
with
the colors yet.

they should
be up
next friday.

have
a lovely weekend!

Quercus alba

{wednesday's purse}

i work
on trees.
well,
on caterpillars
that eat trees
but
at least
indirectly
i study trees
too.

by far
my favorite
tree
is the white oak,
Quercus alba.

i love
the smell
and shape
of the leaves
and
the caterpillars
that nestle
in their leaves.

when
i was trying
to come up
with
a decoration
for this purse
for a
blog friend,
i couldn't
decide on one
that would
suit her.
i knew that
it would
be
plant-affiliated
but what...
and then
i thought
of the
gentle and noble
oak.
perfect.

i hope
she likes it.

meanwhile
bowls
are
being
felted
for
my etsy shop
update
next friday.

purse.a.day

i am doing
a
purse.a.day
{decorating}
to try
to get
purses
out
to stores,
to friends,
and
on etsy.

{monday}

part of
the fall
line for
seattle

{tuesday}

an experiment
with
multiple
yarns.

. . . . .

my polaroids
have gone
missing...
lately
i have gotten
into
the bad habit
of sticking them
into
whatever i am
reading
and then
i can't find them.

this
september 8
pair
was found
in
a pig in provence
yesterday.

more purses
thursday...
maybe polas
too
(depends
on what
i am reading).

hope you
are
having a
great week.
