refuge: clothespins

on monday
mornings
i drive
to the

leaves
to feed my

for the week.

there
are tons of
old laboratories
and houses
throughout
the refuge
in various
stages of
decay.

the heat
is oppressive
today so
i worked
quickly.

refuge: greenhouse

but i had
to stop
to take
a shot
or
two.

refuge: flower

wishing you
a lovely week.

winter color

winter greens (and red)

i'd like
to be
a girl
of greys
and
beige
and
whites.
but
my heart
always
gravitates
towards

buttons & heath

today
i am off
to seattle...
i am so excited
to see
my family,
old pals
and
i get to see
ash
too.
she is moving
away from seattle
and this makes
me sad
because it
was a highlight
of my
trips
home to see her.
but now
i can visit her
in a new place.

as
lisa s
mentioned,
we did not just
work on my
visit to sf.
we went to 2
places
i have been
wanting to go to
since
i heard about them...
the famous
{and secret}
button store
and
the
heath factory.
2 things
for which
i have,
as amy put it,
an unnatural love.

. . . . .

i have
a button lady
here in dc
who is wonderful
and i love
getting buttons
and chatting
with her
but
this
was button mecca.
i was overwhelmed.
i bought
many buttons
(but not as many
as i wanted)
and
i fear that
i barely
scraped the surface
of what she had.
she was a lovely
old lady
and i loved
listening
to her chat
with lisa
as i looked through
the drawers....

i didn't know
that
there was
a heath factory store.
i learned about
heath
when grub
and i started dating.
he had some old
heath from his aunt
and i was quite
smitten with it.

i bought
just a few items
as presents
(so i can't show them)
but here's
some of
my bowl/button booty.

not as well
coordinated
as
lisa's buttons.

. . . . .

before i go,
here's one more
skirt
i finished
sewing tanks on...
this is my 2nd favorite
(but i have
a soft spot
for yellow).

i hope that you
all have
a wonderful
holiday...
i may occasionally post
if i can
but otherwise
i am back on the 30th.

happy
happy
holidays
to all of you.

pola weekend

growing up
the sound
of the radio
was constant
in my home.

i remember
listening
to some drama
on the radio
throughout
the house
while
everyone
in the house
was
seperately
engrossed
in their own
projects.

my mother cooking
in the kitchen
at the top
of the stairs...
the smell
of
onions
permeating
silently into
each room.

my sister
reading
in her room...
the rocking
chair
creeking
back
and forth.

my brother joe
painting
at the foot
of the stairs...
turpentine
creeping
up the stairs
to mingle
with the
onions.

my brother tom
play-acting
some battle...
the occasional
cry of victory
from
a make-believe
audience.

my brother johnny
and i
usually
sitting
on the stairs
playing a game...
whispering
about
some
grandiose
plan.

my
dad in his
office
probably
writing
another
nsf proposal...
the sound
of the
dot matrix printer
on it's
long journey
across the page.

somehow
listening
to the radio
together
made it
seem like
we were all
in
the same room.

this weekend
we stayed in
and listened
to the radio
as
grub prepared
for thanksgiving

and
i cleaned
and
finished
neglected
projects.

hope you
had
a
productive
weekend.

undercover

cheddar cauliflower

i have
been
undercover
lately.
i always mean
to be a good
blogger
and say
i am taking
a leave
of absence
but
i guess
i am not
that organized
to know
when i need
a break.

i was suppose
to be
here
this past
week
visiting
some
lovely
people
and
taking
a vacation
{and going
to
pinot fest}
but
grub and i
had to cancel...
we were too
overwhelmed.

we did go
to the
farmers
market.
so nice
to
see
all my farmer pals
after being
gone
for 2
weekends.
