3: clutches

three clutches

i had three
clutches
knitted
but not
felted
from
last season.

now that
it's cooling
off
i thought
i'd
finish
them up
before
i move on
to the new
fall 08
colors
and
designs.

yellow clutch on-the-go

they
are for sale
here.
these
are
the last
i will make
of
these

go so well
with
this
or
this.

i am
a sucker
for
yellow,
blue,
and red.

red clutch

i am
really
looking
forward
to
fall.

tank girls

{lisa's guest room}

not really sure
where december
went...
can't believe it's
been so long
since i posted.
sorry.

much has
happened
in the interim.

first,
flew
to san diego
for a meeting.
met some
hot shot
caterpillar people
(but i was too shy)
gave a talk
(it went fine)

then,
i flew
to san francisco
to
hang out with
lisa s
and meet up
with
lisa c
& diana
(i guess that
that night
diana and i
were
the cult jam).

lisa c and i
thrift-shopped
and
she took me
to all
the most stylish
stores in town,
including
rare device.
they have
a fascinating
show there
this month
by
kate bingaman-burt.
she offers
so much
to refect upon.

we had
a tasty
pasta dinner
at farina
and then
met up with
diana fayt.
i adore her work
and she is
just as complex,
intricate,
and
beautiful
as her art.

it was
wonderful
to here
about the transitions
in lisa c's life.
i am so excited
for her
and what
she has ahead.
she is amazing
in that
she is so
open to what
is before her
and
her creativity
and energy
are infectious.
she is
headed
for something
big
and the
evolution
will be
fantastic
to watch.

.. .. .. .. ..

i spent
a lot of time
with lisa s.
which
is always
wonderful.
she was
very busy,
so we spent
most of the time
just hanging out
and
grading
and
working
on projects.

{lisa's kitty mcnulty}

sometimes
that is
the best quality time
with friends.
it's nice
to just
get things
done
together.

she graded, i graded...
she sorted papers, i knitted...
she sewed, i sewed...
she graded, i sewed....

{lisa working
on new pieces
for this show}

we
had to have
some
tiki drinks
(grub's current obsession):

and
we collaborated
on a
felt tank project.
here are
a few
skirts
we made
(i love her
sewing machine):

vintage skirts
with tanks
from
her installations
(which have been
featured in
art in america-
congrats to
lisa!).

there will be
more skirts
and purses
to come.

it was
so quickly
over
and
here i am
back in dc.

a few days
home,
then back
to the
west coast
for the holidays.

hope you
all are well...

more
before i leave.
until then,
xo

cold wind blowing

There’s music
on the station
And I’m just listening
to cold wind whistling...

it's
gotten
cold
here.

i am
spending
my days
with
a pipettor
in my hand
listening
to kexp.

my nights
knitting
and
sewing
and
listening
to old episodes
of frontline.

if you
haven't
already,
watch
cheney's law.
makes
my blood
run cold...
or boil,
depending
on one's
perspective.

. . . . .

i put
a few things
in
my etsy shop.

. . . . .

today's
the
last day
of
our
farmer's market...
and there
are still
a few leaves
left
on the trees.

have
a lovely
weekend.

collect the moments

one by one
I guess that's how
the future's done...
{feist
}

it's
a cool
gray
afternoon
that
reminds
me of
walking home
after
elementary
school
with
my siblings.
the days
when you
knew
summer
was really gone.
my mom
was
at home
with
apple cider
and
pepparkakor.
i could
use
some
cider and
pepparkakor
today.

i am in love
with grays
and browns.
my sister
(the fashionista)
tells me
that's
the colors
this year.
so i am knitting
in grays
and browns
and i find it
very soothing.

i am so glad
that i
take the metro
to and from
school...
it gives me
time to sit
and knit...
just
a little bit
every day.
i can't quite
explain
why it's
so important
to me...
but somehow
it centers me
every day.
it reminds me
that
each little stitch
will someday
become something
bigger.

these
are some
of my
metro
creations:

for
the
shop update
friday at 2pm
EST
(polaroids
soon).

hope you
have time
for
fika
today.

just a little something

yesterday
i posted
over here.

. . . . . .

last weekend
we had
a housewarming/
shadow puppet show/
art sale...

but
the art show
didn't happen
because
my brother
wasn't ready.

i made
some tees
and
framed
a few things
for the sale
but didn't end up
puttting
them up...

so i decided
to put
them all
in
my etsy store.

half of
my etsy proceeds
are
going
to
the scholarship fund
in memory of
my friend
who died in
the VT shooting
.

i am trying
to find
a way
to help out
a little.
sometimes
that's
all you can do.

next week
i'll put up
purses,
more tees
and
polaroid
prints.

hope you
have
a wonderful
memorial day
weekend...
or
just a lovely
weekend
for those
outside
the us.

i plan
to sit on
my patio,
watch
my morning glories
bloom,
and
chase away
birds
from my
tomatoes
and
basil!

corners . . . tags

spring has
inspired me
to get
those little
odds and ends
done around
corners of my home...

a while back
i bought
two of
these
beautiful
pieces
by
lisa solomon...
i found
two old
boxes
at
value village
and hung them
up to display
the mannequins.
i have been
meaning
to paint the inside
of the boxes...
finally
i decided
upon a color
and bought
some paint...
sweet chamomile
seemed
an
appropriate color...

what do you think?
lisa,
do you approve?

and
i organized
the piles
of things
on my dresser
by my bed
with the help
of more paint,
ikea,
and a drill
(damn those
hollow walls!)
...
i have been
working
on
some more
organizing
of corners.
more for
next week's
corners of my home...

. . .

i also
put
some tags
up in
my
etsy shop...
there
are sets
(like above)
or
individual
tags...
here are
some of my favorites:

more
detailed
views
on etsy
or here.

tomorrow
i am finally
going
to
value village
(it's been
too long!)
and
i will
share
my friday finds
with you.

until then,
xo
