when
i look back
at my
years
in switzerland
one of
the memories
i will
cherish
the most
will be
the
2 days
we spent
in mürren,
especially
the hike
down
from
schilthorn.

not only
because
it was
all
so beautiful
that your
heart
wants
to burst,
but
because
i shared
the adventure
with
friends.

on top of the world

when my brother
visited
we decided
to go to
the
m a t t e r h o r n ...

i have been there
once before.



last time
i went there
we took
a train from
zermatt
to gornergrat
3090 m / 10,138 ft
(map here).

this time
we took
a gondola
to klein matterhorn.
3885 m / 12,746 ft.



it is
the highest point
you can get to
by gondola
in europe.

thin air.
bright light.
staggering peaks.
and so so much blue.

you feel like
you are
on top of the world.

i once 

heard

grub 

describe

me as
a person
who

likes

to put things 

into 
other things.

on saturday

my brother

and i went to

the 

two thrift stores

downtown.

then

we ran across

a brocante

on the way

home

in the

jardin anglais.

there were
lots of cool things

at the brocante

but

they were all
too expensive.

we both
fell in love

with
an old

bowling trophy

but did not
even bother
to ask
how much...

i surveyed

my finds
when
i
returned home...

i realized

that

grub 

described me

to a tee.

la chaux-de-fonds

it was an
amazing
autumn day
when we
took the train to
la chaux-de-fonds.



it was still warm
and the leaves
had begun
to change.

 

we spent
the afternoon
wandering
the streets
while
wee grub napped
in the carrier.



we followed
the walking map
and saw
some of
the
architecture
that put
this town
on the
UNESCO
world heritage list.



in the late
afternoon
we found a spot
in the shade
of a cafe.
we
ate crepes
and
people-watched
until
it was time
to catch
the train home.



i hoping
for a few
more small
trips
before
we leave
to the states
then mexico.
