violet, not purple

studious

purple's
not
my favorite
color
but last year
i made
a conscious
effort
to add
purple
to my closet.

i always
preferred
the word
violet
better
than purple.
i think
i would have
liked
purple
better
if we
called it
violet.

i have
been thinking
about
depression era
movies
lately
(for obvious
reasons)...
the purple rose of cairo
is always
the first
that comes
to mind.
so sad.
so beautiful.

what movies
come
to your mind?

happy
hump-day!
xo

ps
i need
this tee.

A prof. once said that purple holds the anger of red and the sadness of blue. I hated that, because then I didn't like the color anymore. Perhaps renaming is the answer! Violet seems more for flowers, scents, and pleasure than purple ever could be.

we are in the same color today. i prefer plum, but that's because it's reddish-purple, and you know how i love red. and reddish-purple. violet is quite lovely, too.

classic ROY G. BIV

p.s. "the purple bottle" by animal collective is the inspiration for my blog's name.

Yeeech!
I really hate purple.
(Childhood trauma...)

Plus, I'm an Autumn:
Give me red!
Give me orange!

For me, 'violet' sound much more beautiful than 'purple'... So tell me, there isn't really any difference between colours purple and violet? I've been wondering about it; in Finnish (my first language) we don't have that many words for colours (e.g. we don't have a separte word for teal) and sometimes it's really hard to know what exactly English speaking people mean... :)

i really love purple (and violet, and plum) in theory, and i'm realizing that they are woefully unrepresented in my closet. maybe it's time to fix that.
the pale green tights really make that color sing!

I love the name Violet as my great grandmother's name (whom I adored) was Violet Victoria. It's a great colour too, and so much better than purple. xo lj

Yes, violet sounds delicious when compared to purple and other offerings. They smell delicious too.

I have a really, really hard time liking purple. I call that deep shade aubergine...maybe I need to say violet for the lighter ones...
Royal purple reminds me of the L.A. Lakers (hey, I grew up in the 80's).
You look lovely in it, though.

I have a hard time with purple too.
I can't even really paint with it, although it makes a really lovely shadow color.

Hi there. My name is Violet! And I am fond of the color (my car is a beautiful hue!) I usually do a "Purple Thursday" post on my blog. I love your knitted treasures! Very fun.

Your blog isn't just a treat to read, it's visually pleasing as well!

I, too, have trouble wearing black or any other super dark shade because I live with 2 cats.

I don't mind wearing purple as long as it isn't in some shiny fabric.
