s t i l l

still for a moment
not moving or making a sound

i think
of
s t i l l
as
without moving
but
can things
that never
had
motion
become
motionless?
can
the
inanimate
be
still?

an ordinary static photograph

waiting

can
a cup
be silent?

bird on film

can
a object
seem
calm?

i think
that
i often
try
to animate
the
inanimate-
sometimes
more
successfully
than others.

what
do you
think of
as
still?

oh yes. i do think that a cup can be silent, and object still. i think so. for me, it's about the composition, and light - it's still for me when i can feel through the photograph that there is no breeze.

I think for me it is when a photograph has peace to it. An internal stillness, so to speak.

i always so enjoy your reflections...

i, too, always try to animate the inanimate... what do they call that? oh yes, a wild imagination.

An atmospheric collection of photos that embody stillness...

Stillness, for me, is something I associate with my mental state during yoga. That is when I am still in mind and in the present.

Happy weekend to you, g xo

There's a side of me...especially when I was younger, that feels that "inanimate" objects have some sort of soul...Even or especially, machines, electronics, computers...etc. And that how we treat then seems to effect their performance...(THE GHOST IN THE MACHINE)...I've had electronics that started "acting" weird or not working, and I left them alone for a while (to sort themselves out), and they seemed to fix themselves...call me a weirdo, but it's true...

After reading your post I refelected on "still"...
I have decided that stillness is in the eye of the beholder.

Being in a quiet place both spiritually and physically, a sense of calm and peace. To be still is to be refreshed.
