collection collective: polaroid cameras

i can't remember
exactly when...
i know it was
the age
when girls
have slumber parties
and start
to worry about
style and how
they look.
i was
that age
when i received
my first
polaroid camera.
i think it
was 5th grade.

it was
a simple
one step camera
i can't remember
if
i actually asked
for it
or if my parents
(already keenly
aware of
my desire
to document
and organize)
just thought
i wanted one.

i took
a lot
of photos
and used
most
of my
allowance
for film
{some things
never change}.

here is
one of
my old
polaroids:

my sister,
holding my
pet
chinchilla.
more recent ones
here.

there is
something
about polaroids
that i have
always loved.
it goes beyond
the instant
gratification
that is now
common
in the digital age.
it's the shape,
how the
white plastic frames
the picture,
the weight of it.
it's probably
nostalga.

so for
the collection collective
i present
my
polaroid collection:

there are
loads
of people
still
obsessed with
polaroids...
and
tons
of
polaroid
flickr
groups...
some
polaroid-
agraphers
i love
are
here,
here,
here,
and
here.

promise
i will scan
my new
daily portraits
soon...
have a
wonderful
night!

Collection collective! I agree with the weight and substance of the older cameras. I think I never got into them because they have such a short lifespan....moi, the archivist...

That polaroid of your sister with her glowing cloud-like hair holding the chinchilla is such a great photo. You were brilliant back then, too. It reminds me of those 80's glam pictures.

the instant gratification and the instant frame. the whole idea of an instant something that is not just a digital blip... maybe it is a little nostalgic, but i love polaroids too (though i have never been very good with a camera). your sister is such a glamorous babe!
