in one week
at 2pm EST
i will walk
into a tiny room
and
spend
3+ hours
being grilled
by 5 professors
(my committee).
then they
send me out
into the hall
for about
10 minutes
(probably
the longest
10 minutes
in my life)
while
they discuss me...
and then
they call me
back in
to tell me
if i pass or fail.
if i pass,
it means
they accept
the research project
i proposed
and feel that
i have the expertise
to complete it.
then i have
2-3 years
to finish
my research,
write my thesis
and
defend my thesis
to the same
5 people.
if i fail....
well,
we won't
think about that.
mostly i want
to stop
stressing
and
studying.
obviously
this is
really really
important
to me
and
i have been
stressing about it
for over a year.
but at this point,
i tell myself
again and again,
all i can do
is
my best.
so in order to
do my best.
i will will
disappear
from
the blog world
for a week...
(i probably
should have
done it for
a month
but i am a
blog addict)...
i will miss you all.

Oh my gosh, I thought you were doing that today and I was amazed by how relaxed your posts seemed. I just thought to myself, wow, she is a real cool cucumber.

Good luck! Remember that your committee is with you, not against you. Success in prelims often depends not just on what you know, but how you deal with being questioned. Be confident, smile, and remember that you are the expert when it comes to your own research. I know you'll do fabulously!

eek - you just brought back long lost memories of my proposal defense... you won't need luck, just nerves of steel and perhaps some arrogance and bravado thrown in - depending on your committee!
