the final week

a week to go

in one week
at 2pm EST
i will walk
into a tiny room
3+ hours
being grilled
by 5 professors
(my committee).

then they
send me out
into the hall
for about
10 minutes
the longest
10 minutes
in my life)
they discuss me...
and then
they call me
back in
to tell me
if i pass or fail.

if i pass,
it means
they accept
the research project
i proposed
and feel that
i have the expertise
to complete it.

then i have
2-3 years
to finish
my research,
write my thesis
defend my thesis
to the same
5 people.

if i fail....
we won't
think about that.
mostly i want
to stop

this is
really really
to me
i have been
stressing about it
for over a year.
but at this point,
i tell myself
again and again,
all i can do
my best

so in order to
do my best.
i will will
the blog world
for a week...
(i probably
should have
done it for
a month
but i am a
blog addict)...

i will miss you all.
keep your
see you
next friday
i am drunk
and have
good news.

Oh my gosh, I thought you were doing that today and I was amazed by how relaxed your posts seemed. I just thought to myself, wow, she is a real cool cucumber.
Good luck with all your preparations you already have all that you need and your mind and soul knows that, so you will do great! If they don't like it, well that is a big loss to them.

Good luck to you!
You sound very prepared, I am sure that it will go smashingly.

(I am a blog lurker, but I felt that I should speak up to offer word of encouragement)

Ich drücke dir die daumen natürlich! Aber Glück brauchst du nicht. My best friend just passed her prelims and I took it as a sign of good things to come in your neck of the woods.

suzamaphone said...

you will not fail. they will think you're the smartest and only say good things while you're out of the room for those 10 minutes. xoxo

Good luck! You will be in my thoughts this week. I'm sure you'll blow them away. :)

you will kick ass! I know how stressful your defense can be, just relax and take it with stride.

Jenna said...

Best of luck to you!! As you said, all you can do is work hard and see the results. I'm sure they will see your knowledge and intense passion for your subject, and that will count for alot.

go gwen!! you can do it. i'm thinking of you. xo shari
ps: i scored a little treat for you from the scrap exchange last night. :)

just wanted to wish you the best of luck and to let you know that i, like your numerous other blog fans, have total faith in your ability.

see you on the other side!

yet another lurker brought into the clearing by quals fever!
(i'm glad i'm not the only one)

you will do fabulously

we'll all be missing your creativity
sending you good thoughts
and looking forward to your return

Good luck! Remember that your committee is with you, not against you. Success in prelims often depends not just on what you know, but how you deal with being questioned. Be confident, smile, and remember that you are the expert when it comes to your own research. I know you'll do fabulously!

Anonymous said...

Good luck - fingers crossed :))

Anonymous said...

I would say Good luck but I have a feeling you will not be needing it. YOU ARE GOING TO PASS with flying colors!

Tracykins said...

You own that prelim!

Anonymous said...

eek - you just brought back long lost memories of my proposal defense... you won't need luck, just nerves of steel and perhaps some arrogance and bravado thrown in - depending on your committee!

eireann said...

you will do it!

I know it is nerve-wracking--I was just there in May--but it will feel SO good when it's over, and you will pass!

Anonymous said...

So much good luck!! I had a lot of catching up to do on your blog, so I am sending tons of good vibes your way!

Anonymous said...

oh Im so late in posting my comment! I know you will do awesome! You have worked so hard! You deserve it ;)

We are all sending positive vibes your way!
