we went to
m i l a n
for grub's
40th birthday.

milano-fleamarket

we checked out
the monthly
flea market
by the canal.
(i could have
stayed there
all day
but it was not
my birthday).

the main reason
we went,
of course,
was for the food!

grub tried
a lot of gelato.

milano-john-gelato grub. gelato. milano.

we
ate a lot
of great
food...

included

it was
too short
a trip.

i didn't take

or
eat enough
gelato.
so i guess
we will
have
to go back
soon.

a little corbusier

corbusier bathroom mirror

you can't
really go
to paris
with
an architect
and not
see some
corbusier.
i think that
they'd take
away grub's
architecture
degree or something.

corbusier's maison la roche

there are
a few corbusiers
you can visit
but we
chose
to visit
maison la roche
in the neighborhood
of auteuil.

grub & corbusier

dare i admit
that
grub isn't
the biggest
corbusier fan?

grub & corbusier

one thing
we both
noticed
was that
although
it was
recently
restored,
it doesn't age well.
this is strange
when you
are surrounded
by buildings
in paris
that are
hundreds of years older...

corbusier likes narrow walkways

i think
that
this may be
due to the fact
that
he
was trying
to build
a completely
new way...
it takes
a while
for the artisans
to figure out how
to do it right.

hell,
almost
all of
frank lloyd wright's
buildings
leaked.

corbusier7

i was fascinated
by the tiny little
color bars
(above photo)
on each wall
to show you
how he achieved
the color
for the walls.

grub and
i have a little
architecture
curse on us.
every time we
go to a famous
architecture
building
my digital camera dies.
well,
it happened again.
so
although it
was horrible
lighting,
i took
some polaroids.

le sigh.

this one goes to eleven

clive & dimitri

yep,
grub & i
are
11 years old today.

look how
young & cute
we were

happy 11 years grub!

i am so
very
very
very
lucky.
grub is
an
amazing
person
and
i adore him.

dimitri

oh,
and i stayed up
late
finishing
my amigurumi.
he's supppose
to be a mouse
but
people
have called him
other
less nice
names.
so i just
call him
clive.

it's a mole?

happy weekend!

blame it on the tripod

searanch: shell-beach

this year,
thanks
to hannah
and her
amazing
photos,
i decided to
take
a tripod
to sea ranch.

this spawned
a whole
new
avenue
of photos.

what started
as nice
{almost} proper
shots,

searanch: tripod this

turned
to madness.

searanch: tripod this

searanch: tripod this

it's
the fault of
w. coast pony,

searanch: w. coast pony

she is
fond
of
jumping.

searanch: woohoo

on the
other hand,

grub
used
it as
a weapon.

searanch: grub assassin
{another perspective}

. . .

more to come.

it was
weird
to be

so many years

la landmark

and
see places
i frequented
when i
was
much
younger.

grub
didn't like
la
{too much
driving,
he said}

little
did he know

so la

that he

you say tomato...

market: heirlom tomatoes

{i say sauce}

during
tomato
season
we get
a big bag
of tomato
"2nds"...

markettomatoes

grub makes
tupperwares
full
of spicey
tomato
sauce.
it helps
get us
through
the winter.

market: cherry tomatoes

in my
entomology
department
,
there
are constant
vegetable
give-aways
throughout
the summer.
someone
has to eat
all the vegetables
harvested
after
we do research
on bugs in
agricultural crops!

this week:
a trailer
full
of
potatoes...
so we are
making
gnocchi
all weekend.
do you
have a favorite
gnocchi
recipe?
we are trying
one from
this book.

market: flowers

hope
you are
enjoying
saturday!

10 years

10 years! i heart this photo

today
grub
and i
have been
together
for 10 years.

i tried
to think
of something
to write
all day.
something
that
didn't sound
cheesey
or
overused.

but
i couldn't
think
of the
right words.

because,
i think,
there
are
10 years
of
words...
and
moments
and
expressions
(grub has
the most
expressive face).

people say
love grows
or
love fades...
i think
love is.

like the
moment
(i imagine)
you hold
your child.
you know
love fully.
it doesn't
need to grow
because its
all there.
right there.

that's
how i felt.
it was
there-
complete.
complete in grub.

now
i've
gotten
all cheesey.

oh well.

happy 10
sweet grub.
