we have the facts

and we
are voting.

election day
is a big deal
here in DC.
it's like a major
sports game...
people gather
at all the bars
around town
to watch
the results.
i have never
experienced
that anywhere
before...
i really love it.
here,
more
than anywhere
in the country,
{with good reason}
people are
very much
aware of
the importance
of
the vote.
i wish that
people
all around
the US
felt that
energy
on election day.

....

on
a different
note
i wanted
to
show you
a couple
of amazing
packages
i received
in the last few days...

first,
a little package
from my
brother
johnny.

his packages
are always
so wonderful
with so much
detail in everything
down to
the packaging:

i adore his packages.

i opened
a handpainted
box
(he has a thing
for black
lacquer paint)
in which
he placed
a piece of
a wasp nest.
in the wasp
nest cavities
he delicatedly
placed
little pink
ceramic drops

it reads:
.Monday.
On this fall Afternoon,
3 Yellow Jackets Left
their Nest..(angry)...and
Sought Me Out...three
stings, that itch...

thank you
johnny dear!

then yesterday
i received
this
amazing
package

from
julie.
she is
an incredible
talent
but
is also
incredibly
sweet
and thoughtful...
she painted
beautifuly
detailed
{and
entomologically correct}
insects...

and also
covered
the box
in pages
from
alice in wonderland-
specifically
pages from
alice's
conversation
with
the caterpillar
!
this is
an amazing
added touch
to an already
fantastic gift...
what she
didn't know
was
this has
special
significance to me
because
my research
is based on
the red queen hypothesis
which is named
after a passage
in these books-
how cool is that?!
thank you
so so much
sweet julie!
see {better}
photos
here.

...

time again
to revisit
the much
neglected

the
{late}
monday
give-away™
:

please
check
the guidelines
and
please pay
shipping

if you decide
to claim the item.

today for the
give-away™
is
a vintage
vera
sheet

{taken by laura}

i believe it
is queen-sized.
look
what
loveliness
stephanie
did with
her vera sheet
!

.....

now i am off
to watch
the election
results.
happy {i hope}
election night
and
stay
tuned for
the collection collective
on polaroid cameras
tomorrow!
xo

That package from your brother is amazing. Its like a little box of fantastic art. Somehow, it seems so appropriate that Alice in Wonderland would somehow tie back to you, that's very cool. Happy Voting!

caterpillars oust republicans from congress! arthropods, angered by loss of habitat, make their voices heard at the polls! it was a big night for the pro-critter voters.

i heard that something like 36% of Texans voted yesterday - i thought wow, that's a low #...then they said that was a record high! sad.

that brother of ours....
yes, he is tremendously gifted with his assemblages. you should see some of the things he has lying around his place. some of them are so brilliant and simple i am tempted to steal them.

other than that, good news so far with the vote returns out here. looks like the republicans got stomped on, and out here in seattle, good news as well. could this be the long awaited death rattle for this administration? i hope so...
